Why ImprovMX Doesn't Use MXS Domains Anymore

The history behind the migration from .mxs domains to standard MX records.

ImprovMX previously offered MXS domains as a premium feature hosted in a Swiss bunker datacenter. However, the hosting provider discontinued this service and relocated all servers to a standard Swiss datacenter around 2019.

Infrastructure Changes

We decided to consolidate operations, moving all users — both free and premium — to unified, more powerful servers. This transition occurred in October 2019 and improved overall efficiency.

Premium Benefits Preserved

Rather than pursuing alternative premium infrastructure, ImprovMX shifted focus to offering premium subscribers priority queue treatment. All the emails are in the same queue, but premium users are treated first.

Customer Feedback

After consulting with customers about the bunker feature, feedback indicated it wasn't essential — merely a minor advantage. This informed the decision to discontinue further development in that direction.

Timeline of Changes

  • October 2019: mxs1 and mxs2 servers redirected to standard mx1 and mx2 servers
  • January 2020: Company ceased promoting MXS servers
  • February 2020: MXS domains were marked invalid for continued users

What to Do

If you're still using MXS servers, update your MX records to:

  • mx1.improvmx.com (priority 10)
  • mx2.improvmx.com (priority 20)
