Can I turn off spam filtering?
Why ImprovMX's spam protection cannot be disabled.
No, spam protection cannot be turned off per account or domain. We have no plans to offer this functionality.
What We Use
ImprovMX uses SpamAssassin at the system level to protect users, their domains, and our service against unwanted mail. The filtering runs during email processing and checks sender reputation plus email compliance.
How It Works
- Emails receive a spam score based on multiple tests
- Messages scoring above
5.0are rejected - Failed tests appear in your email logs with specific reasons
For example, messages may be rejected for being on blocklists or failing RFC compliance checks.
Why Spam Filtering Is Mandatory
As a forwarding service, ImprovMX becomes the technical "sender" of forwarded emails. If we allowed spam through, it would damage our sending reputation and cause legitimate mail to land in spam folders for all users.
Privacy Consideration
SpamAssassin runs on our own servers without third-party involvement, except for standard blocklist checks.
Workaround
If you need to retrieve emails that were filtered as spam, you can download them by adjusting your privacy settings in the ImprovMX Dashboard. See our guide on downloading emails from logs for more details.
