Apple Mail SMTP (iOS)
Configure ImprovMX SMTP with Apple Mail on iPhone/iPad.
This guide enables iOS Mail users to receive forwarded messages via Gmail IMAP while sending from a custom domain using ImprovMX SMTP.
Prerequisites
Before beginning, ensure you have:
- A domain configured in ImprovMX with Gmail forwarding
- Created SMTP credentials in the ImprovMX Dashboard
- Added DKIM and DMARC DNS records
- 2-Step Verification enabled on Gmail
- A Gmail App Password generated
Step 1: Add New Mail Account
Navigate to Settings → Mail → Mail Accounts → Add Account, then select Other and Add Mail Account.
Step 2: Enter Account Details
Complete the following fields:
- Name: Your display name
- Email:
user@yourdomain.com - Password: Your Gmail App Password
- Description: Optional identifier
Select Next to proceed to server configuration.
Step 3: Configure Mail Servers
Incoming (Gmail IMAP)
- Host:
imap.gmail.com - Username:
your-gmail@gmail.com - Password: Your Gmail App Password
Outgoing (ImprovMX SMTP)
- Host:
smtp.improvmx.com - Username:
user@yourdomain.com - Password: Your ImprovMX SMTP password
Select Next, allow verification to complete, then Save.
Step 4: Finalize Settings
Disable Notes sync if unnecessary, then confirm with Save.
Step 5: Test Functionality
- Open Mail
- Compose a message
- Verify the From address displays your custom domain
- Send a test message
Google Account Syncing
If you want to sync Google Contacts and Calendar alongside this mail setup:
Option A (Recommended)
Go to Settings → Mail → Accounts → Add Account → Google. Enable only Contacts and Calendar while disabling Mail.
Option B
Use the custom account setup without Google integration if you prefer isolated mail handling.
Result
You can now send messages from your custom domain on iOS while receiving replies through your Gmail inbox.
