Why Aren't You Open Source?

Our position on open-sourcing ImprovMX.

We're sometimes asked why ImprovMX isn't open source. Here are the key reasons behind this decision.

Privacy Concerns

Being open-source does not mean respecting your privacy. Providers can implement data collection on servers independently of published code. Our commitment to privacy is demonstrated through our practices, not our source code availability.

Technical Complexity

ImprovMX is a complex system containing various independent yet connected parts that are tightly configured to our specific architecture. Making this code publicly available would require significant refactoring to be useful outside our infrastructure.

Resource Prioritization

We prefer focusing our energy on improving the service, its quality, and its features first rather than making code generally available for external deployment.

Future Openness

We are not against the idea of releasing the code base of ImprovMX publicly in the future. This position may evolve as the service matures and our resources grow.

Note: While we appreciate open source and use many open source tools ourselves, our current focus is on delivering the best possible email forwarding service to our users.
