White-Label MX Records

Use your own branded MX records with ImprovMX.

White-label MX records allow you to use custom, branded MX records instead of the default ImprovMX records. Instead of mx1.improvmx.com, your DNS records can show mx1.yourdomain.com or mx1.mail.yourdomain.com.

Note: White-labeled MX records are available exclusively on ImprovMX Enterprise plans.

What Are White-Label MX Records?

White-labeling is purely cosmetic — email forwarding works identically whether you use default ImprovMX records or custom branded ones. The difference is what appears in your public DNS records.

Default Records

  • mx1.improvmx.com
  • mx2.improvmx.com

White-Labeled Records (Example)

  • mx1.piedpiper.com
  • mx2.piedpiper.com

Use Cases

  • Reselling email forwarding: If you offer email forwarding as part of your services, white-labeling hides the underlying provider from your customers.
  • Brand consistency: Maintain your brand identity across all public DNS records without third-party service names visible.
  • Privacy: Keep your email infrastructure provider private from casual DNS lookups.

Setup Instructions

Step 1: Enable White-Label in ImprovMX Dashboard

  1. Log in to your ImprovMX dashboard
  2. Navigate to your domain's settings
  3. Go to Custom Settings > Whitelist Settings
  4. Enter your white-label domain (e.g., piedpiper.com)
  5. Save your settings — ImprovMX will display the required DNS records

Step 2: Add CNAME Records

In your domain registrar's DNS settings, add the CNAME records displayed in your ImprovMX dashboard. These point your custom subdomains to ImprovMX's servers.

Type Host Value
CNAME mx1 mx1.improvmx.com
CNAME mx2 mx2.improvmx.com

Step 3: Update MX Records

Replace your domain's MX records with your new white-labeled records:

Type Host Value Priority
MX @ mx1.piedpiper.com 10
MX @ mx2.piedpiper.com 20

Step 4: Update SPF Record

Use the white-labeled SPF record provided in your dashboard, or continue using the standard ImprovMX SPF include:

v=spf1 include:spf.improvmx.com ~all

Verification

After configuring your DNS records:

  1. Wait for DNS propagation (typically a few minutes to 48 hours)
  2. Return to your ImprovMX dashboard to verify the records are detected
  3. Send a test email to confirm forwarding works correctly

That's it! You can now use your own branded MX records for a fully white-labeled experience.
