New Feature: Passkeys
By Matthew Tse
Passkeys are a key part of the future of account security. We're excited to announce that ImprovMX now supports passkeys as a secure, passwordless authentication method.
What are passkeys?
Passkeys are a modern authentication standard that replace traditional passwords with cryptographic key pairs stored on your device. They're phishing-resistant, easier to use, and more secure than passwords.
Why we added passkeys
As an email forwarding service, security is paramount. Passkeys eliminate the risk of password theft, credential stuffing, and phishing attacks. They're the gold standard for account security.
How to set up passkeys
Go to Account Settings > Security > Add Passkey. Your browser or device will guide you through the setup. You can register multiple passkeys (e.g., your laptop and phone) for redundancy.
How it works
When you sign in, instead of entering a password, you'll authenticate using your device's biometric sensor (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint) or a PIN. The authentication happens locally on your device — your biometric data never leaves it.
Compatibility
Passkeys work on all modern browsers and operating systems including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android.
What about existing 2FA?
If you currently use TOTP-based 2FA, you can continue using it alongside passkeys. Passkeys are an additional option, not a replacement for existing security methods.
